The product line was bought out by McAfee years ago and they still make UTM's I think.Īs a threat management system goes, the 560/570's crap compared to current security products I will admit.
BEST ROUTER FOR MAC 2013 SOFTWARE
The Netgate 7100 series is supposed to be very similar, using the same software I think. They are pretty hard to find on eBay these days, last time I found some I bought 3 extras just in case mine dies. But they have unlimited PPTP and IPSEC VPN. Note, they are OLD and only 10/100 with no switch built in. I have setup all sorts of other routers and so far for basic features I've yet to see anything beat these things.
Years ago I discovered the Snapgear (Cyberguard) SG560/570 routers. Again, just like with Sonicwall, do I need two of these or can I just purchase one at my main location (where the POS server and database are), and just use Windows software to setup the client machine at the second location? The Cisco 5505 is still looking like an option. I'm not in the industry so I don't know current/recommended vendors, etc. Same with the Sophos UTM and RED combo - although it's a lovely setup.Ĭyberoam I haven't looked at no. Juniper looks like its off the radar due to pricing.
BEST ROUTER FOR MAC 2013 INSTALL
Also, would I have to install the Global VPN client on the client machine and then run the VPN firewall capabilities on the other machine (ie server side)? If so, that means I could purchase one TZ105 at my main location and install the VPN client on the other remote office POS computers? The Sonicwall TZ 105 looks like a viable option but again it's a tad more than I want to spend. PFSense pr untangle is a great option but definitely off the radar as I cant have myself spending dozen hours setting up another PC. Wow, thanks so much for the great replies people! We do the hardware VPN link quite often and have experience with many brands.

If you are going to purchase one of these you should look st for the UTM and for the RED device. In our short testing of them (around a year) we have found them to be as reliable as the Junipers with an easier to use interface and easier to understand reporting. If you want to go the Sophos route you can pick up a Sophos UTM 100 and a RED for about $800 together and these are the absolutely easiest to setup hardware VPN's made. We have tried and used pretty much everything out there and with the exception of the Sophos UTM with RED boxes these are probably the easiest and most trouble free we have found. We purchase some of the additional options for traffic scanning and filtering but this adds minimal costs.
BEST ROUTER FOR MAC 2013 UPDATE
We do not update the firmware very often as they don't recommend it unless you need the new options. We have had the connection go down due to the ISP but never the Junipers. They NEVER go have had them running for years without so much as a bit of problem from the device. These are rock solid units that we use in one of our mission critical applications linking multiple offices with differing connection speeds. They run about $400-$500 depending on where you purchase (I recommend ). I would highly recommend the Juniper SSG 5 products.
